Bendigo Retaining Walls connects homeowners across Greater Bendigo with a local, registered and insured retaining wall builder. Whether you’re on a steep block in the south, a new estate in a growth area or a flat creek-side lot in the north, your builder can visit, assess the site and give you a free, written quote.
Call 0485 557 649 and tell us your suburb.
Suburb guides
Each guide covers the local terrain, the kinds of retaining wall jobs common in that area, and anything worth checking before work starts.
- Retaining walls in Strathfieldsaye: Growing south-east township around Emu Creek, with new estates and a bushland edge.
- Retaining walls in Kangaroo Flat: Established south-western suburb on the Calder Highway, with plenty of older walls due for replacement.
- Retaining walls in Epsom: Flatter northern suburb beside Bendigo Creek, where fill, flood levels and drainage come first.
- Retaining walls in Maiden Gully: Major western growth area along the Calder Highway, with a central ridgeline and sloping new lots.
- Retaining walls in Golden Square: Historic gold-rush suburb with steeper rises to the west, including Specimen Hill.
- Retaining walls in Huntly: Northern growth area near the Midland Highway, with new lots and creek flats.
- Retaining walls in Eaglehawk: Former gold-mining borough in the north-west, with older homes and infill sites.
- Retaining walls in Spring Gully: Hilly southern suburb near Spring Gully Reservoir and bushland reserves.

North vs south: why it matters
A 2023 assessment prepared for the City of Greater Bendigo describes the land north of the city as generally flat, becoming more undulating and hilly to the south, south-west and south-east. In the north, retaining work is often about fill pads, garden levels and drainage near creeks. In the south and around the city centre, it’s more often about cutting into steeper slopes. Read about sloping blocks and drainage.
Growth areas and new estates
The City of Greater Bendigo’s Managed Growth Strategy (2024) names Marong, Maiden Gully, Strathfieldsaye and Huntly as the urban growth areas, and proposes expanding the urban growth boundary at Huntly and Strathfieldsaye. New homes in these areas often need walls between lots, around house pads and along driveways.
Remember that walls on or near a boundary need a building permit at any height in Greater Bendigo. See our permit guide.
